Helpful tips for the Bride and Groom…….
The choices you make ahead of time will reduce your stress, distractions, and demand less energy which will allow for your day to transpire with smoothness and ease. These choices directly affect the ability you will have to connect with each other as well as family and friends and also the quality of your images as it relates to good lighting and timing. Also affected is the quantity and quality of images captured. So please take time when considering these variables of your special day.
My photography style is photojournalistic. This means shots are taken in action, mostly un-posed, candid, and fresh. However to capture many facets of the day, posed shots are included and scheduled for ahead of time. The timing of your wedding is very important. I ask that you please provide me with an itinerary or time of events to occur so appropriate set up is accomplished (preferably 3 weeks in advance). I also ask that you please decide if the bride and groom will see each other pre ceremony.
The old tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding dates back to arranged wedding times and often the bride’s desire is to capture the stunning appeal and presentation of the first time He sees her. Surprisingly, this can also be done with pre ceremony bride and groom photos. The look he will have when he sees you will still be as stunning and genuine as when he will wait for you at the alter. Also, allowing for pre ceremony shots allows for you and the groom to speak freely with each other, openly, privately, and remind each other of how much you love each other, calm any nerves and assure things are going to be fun, special, and unforgettable.
Often when bride and groom portraits are taken after the ceremony there are many competing distracters for that time such as family wanting to congratulate the couple, orchestrated meets such as a receiving line, and also special moments between husband and wife. The work up of preparing for your wedding day is demanding and who of all people would you want to help relieve that pressure and relax your mind, body, and spirit? Your best friend. Your soon to be husband or wife. All the more reason to consider taking bride and groom photos pre ceremony. Lastly, by taking these photos pre ceremony you allow for more reception time. This is when your family and friends will interact with you, encourage you, cherish you, and experience you as a married couple for the first time. At times brides have looked back and wished they would have allowed for more relaxed post ceremony time for this reason alone. The choice is yours…I just ask you consider all of these factors.
Possible schedules of portraits:
Portrait schedule if you see each other before your ceremony:
2 hours before ceremony: Bride & Groom see each other for the first time & take portraits alone together
1 1/2 hour before ceremony: Portraits with bridal party
1 hour before ceremony: Portraits with families
1/2 hour before ceremony: Completely done with portraits as your guests begin to arrive--giving you time to go inside for last preparations.
Portrait schedule if you don't see each other before your ceremony:
1.5 hours before ceremony: Portraits of Bride with bridesmaids
1 hour before ceremony: Portraits of Groom with groomsmen
1/2 hour before ceremony: Temporarily done with portraits as your guests begin to arrive--giving you time to go inside for last preparations.
(with receiving line after ceremony)
30 min. after ceremony: Portraits with families
1 hour after ceremony: Portraits with bridal party
1.5 hours after ceremony: Portraits of Bride & Groom alone
2 hours after ceremony: Completely done with portraits
(if Bride & Groom walk down aisle and just keep walking to a secluded area)
Immediately after ceremony: Portraits of Bride & Groom alone
30 min. after ceremony: Portraits with families
1 hour after ceremony: Portraits of bridal party
1.5 hours after ceremony: Completely done with portraits
For must have shots, these are typically done with the formal portraits (20% of overall time devoted to these shots):
-Bride & Groom (B & G)
-B & G with Bride's family
-B & G with Groom's family
-Bridal party all together
-Bride with bridesmaids (grouped & individually)
-Groom with groomsmen (grouped & individually)
If there are additional specific shots wanted or desired please provide those well in advance (can be done by email in list format).
Also, sunset portraits are highly desired and can be achieved when planned. Please keep in mind, best portraits depend greatly on available light. It is preferred majority of the photos be taken in advance when light is plentiful and sunset shots reserved for the end. Ideally these shots are more or less selective than comprehensive.
Lastly, please consider the duration of time it will take to get fully dressed and ready, drive time between appointments (hair, makeup), buffer time for small snafus (or a quick McDonalds dollar menu craving), and last minute changes or preparations. Getting the day off to a timely start will only help keep the momentum calm and relaxed later in the day.
After the wedding, how long until the images are edited and ready?
Within 4 weeks we will provide you with a DVD that will include all of your images from your special day. Feel free to print endlessly from the DVD. The DVD will be "shared" rights meaning we can use modest photos from your event in addition to your ability to print your images without limit. We can assist with custom printing as well.
Do you shoot digitally or with film? Or both?
We prefer digital as it allows for the most flexibility. We can continue to shoot away without fear of running out of film.
